This is profound research which exposes and refutes the heresies of a religion which has through the centuries claimed direct apostolic succession and hierarchical authority. . Millions throughout the centuries have been cheated from a true relationship with Christ in exchange for false beliefs and spurious practices. Here is a scholarly work which its inquisitors would certainly have burnt along with its author, had they the opportunity. If you are a sincere seeker of truth I believe you will be greatly helped with the information presented here. I was.

While the content of the book is exceptional in its proving papal Rome to be a direct continuation of pagan Babylon, the formatting and edited of the book was butchered, sloppy, and simply wrong at certain instances. Incorrect verse references, eye-straining font size, double column margin-pushing formatting, and untraceable footnote references made this edition the worst formatting job I've personally ever read. Thankfully, the content was good enough to keep my attention and get me to fight through the ascetic frustrations.

The book is meticulously researched (truly amazing, considering the year it was written) and well-written in a somewhat intellectual style but with few paragraphs, making it easy to lose your place. The content is superb, but after the first few pages, the editors have skewed the footnotes. Instead of being at the bottom of each page and separate from the text, the "footnotes" immediately follow the superscript number or symbol. It is easy to get confused on what part is text and what part is notes, hence the four stars. I hope some enterprising editor will fix this in the future. The size of the book is also somewhat awkward. Although it is thin, the book is approximately the size of a sheet of paper with two columns of text per page. Perhaps the editor can shrink the book to a half-size sheet with a single column of text per page. It would be much more readable that way.

The truth about the Christian religion. And you thought you were following the customs and traditions from the Hebrew/Christian Bible? Think again. This book has researched the origins of modern religion and guess what? The names may have been change but it is the same old stuff all the way from the Tower of Babel to today.

Strongly recommended, you will be part of a small % of people who will understand the truth about : Christmas , ester ,valentine and other “holy days”

Wow. What a great book. I bought it because of a review/recommended by J. Vernon MaGee.

This is a very informative compilation of Satan's work in deceiving man, and mankind's history of setting up and worshipping FALSE gods and using them to control mankind. We are often told that all the religions mention the flood, a savior of some kind, a God (or gods) to worship, and we should embrace all the religions and their gods because we all have a different view of what God is .NO, this book proves this new age philosophy we experience today is as old as mankind, it just changes as the needs change to make the ancient up-to-date and acceptable. The Bible, the true word of the only LIVING LIVING GOD, testifies that he is "THE SAME, YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND FOREVER!" And he is a jealous God!I would encourage ANYONE who wants to see what Satan has done, and continues to do in confounding mankind with FALSE gods, doctrines, and religions, to read this book.It is a dry read, but worth the effort!

Great book and right on about Roman Catholic Church. Must read to be aware of the false church. Long but worth the read

Kathryn Leigh Scott is amazing in "Dark Shadows," after watching the epic numerous times, I'm impressed all over again by the extraordinary quality of her acting. Rejoice fans who wish the show would continue on and on: a Gothic Danse Macabre lurks inside these pages, rattling autumn leaves and ravens welcome. The vivid imagination of "Dark Shadows" will transport you to a land of perpetual Halloween. The denizens of the murky environs of Collinsport, Maine, aren't concerned about the normal things in life, even when they discover missing cows drained of blood. These folks have special worries, with things that go bump or bite or batty in the night. The entire cast of this little horror troupe is theater at its best; they deserve credit for a remarkable achievement that proudly stands the test of time. Kathryn Leigh Scott's & Jim Pierson's intriguing book contains a short forward by the late Jonathan Frid, fascinating essays by Kathryn Leigh Scott and Lara Parker, visits to the set of the Burton/Depp movie, and wonderful contributions by Pierson, Darren Gross, Stuart Manning, and David Selby. They're all gifted raconteurs. I wish Nancy Barrett and Alexandra Moltke contributed stories too. The book is a must-have for fans of the classic show, wonderfully updated with a plethora of intriguing photographs from Dark Shadows past and present. I never saw "Dark Shadows" as a child (when I lived in a really haunted Victorian house). Photos of Burton's cast pay homage to the classic series. Acclaimed movie director Fritz Lang was an avid fan, who appreciated how Dark Shadows reflected director's Val Lewton's noir-ridden artistic sensibilities. Thank goodness for perpetually dark and stormy nights! The mundane mixes with the extraordinary in the fully realized little world of Collinsport, Maine. In an ennui of smoke, ashes, and burning cigarettes, the citizens of Collinsport cope. Maggie's soda-fountain, with its delightful menus (notice the grilled cheese sandwiches, the ubiquitous hamburgers, and the vintage low prices) is as normal as apple pie, but not: an imminent darkness edges the diner's boundaries with gentle and creepy suspense. The glossy normalcy of Maggie's Collinsport Diner contains a brave cheeriness, a momentary reprieve from the dogs howling in the perpetual darkness beyond the diner's frilly curtains. I'm craving some of those 1960s era grilled cheese sandwiches Maggie efficiently made, with white bread and slices of American cheese, and a side of tomato soup. Be like Professor Stokes, an elegant large man, his portly rotundity robed in silk before a cracking fire, enjoying sherry and cheese."Dark Shadows" is an original gothic, its British sensibilities sepia-tinted with the coastal spooks of New England. The narrative envelopes and captivates viewers in a languorous spirit-fog. The lurking turmoil of "Dark Shadows" is inspired by the classics, not comic books. There is depth and excellent writing, the narrative carries the show, not special effects. There aren't too many ambiguous shades of grey here, bad usually enjoys its evilness, and good is good, unless you're Barnabas. Or Angelique, or Willie. Or the clueless and unfortunate Roger Collins, whose marriages flop to the lopsided end of the stick. Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins walks the line, balancing hunger, desperation, and dignity. The expressive Grayson Hall loyally caws at his side; we should all have such doctors on-call. Don Briscoe is one of the best vampires ever. Cobert's superb music adds richness and another layer to the story. As the epic saga unfolds, it's a treat to observe the details in Sy Tomashoff's amazing sets and Ramse Mostoller's costumes. And through it all, Joan Bennett emotes with aplomb and glamour, her dusky self beautiful and classy. Dan Curtis was clearly influenced by the story of the luscious Bennett in Fritz Lang's Secret Beyond the Door [VHS].I've become a huge fan of Joan Bennett, and wish she could have been interviewed for this book, or that there was an essay about her, and how she inspired Dan Curtis. She just got better, with her maternal warmth and dry humor. What expressive wringing of hands, what a regal coiffure. And what courage on her part to commit to such an eccentric project as "Dark Shadows." A warning: after hours of viewing, you may go through withdrawal when you must stop watching. Read this book, hum the creepy soundtrack, draw the curtains, and find comfort in the fact that the Dark Shadows collection of DVDs is colossal; it need never be too sunny again. The cast of the little horror repertory company was/is simply amazing. Their acting holds up today; they are anything but afflicted with contemporary flat-affect shallowness. Though this original is inspired by gothic classics, it remains innovative, enlivened by the incredibly hard-working, talented cast. This classy theater troupe contributed the book with charm and humor. I don't understand why the actors didn't become more famous, but hope the appreciation of new fans, as well as loyal viewers from the past, helps. From the inordinately talented cast: beautiful Joan Bennet, Nancy Barrett, Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, Alexandra Moltke, Marie Wallace, Kate Jackson, etc., to Jonathan Frid, the voluptuous Thayer David, David Selby, John Karlen, Christopher Pennock, David Henesy; every single actor contributes enormously, lending sincerity and gravitas. This repertory theater has Shakespearian depth, yet it seems like they were ostracized in Hollywood, until now. The entire cast deserves credit for the enduring quality of "Dark Shadows, and this excellent book celebrates their achievements! You might want to check-out the new Dark Shadows: The Complete Original Series (Deluxe Edition), where fellow fans are practically blogging their excitement in their reviews and comments. Enjoy!

I love Katheryn Leigh Scott! She is an awesome writer, and great story teller! I love her books on caregiving, but I am true Dark Shadws fan, and gives great insight! Laura Parker who plays my favorite villainess "Angelique"adds to the content as well! Picture and format of the book were awesome! BUY IT,OR BE CURSED!!!

I hoped this would be more about the memories of the cast of the original crew, but it's actually an overview of everything Dark Shadows, written by various contributors. Still, it's interesting to a dedicated fan. With lots of pictures on high quality paper.

"Dark Shadows:Return to Collinwood" is a trip to both the future of "Dark Shadows" and to the past of this show generations have loved. Kathryn Leigh Scott shares the bittersweet days of her last screen appearance with Jonathan Frid in an honest and heartwrenching chapter, detailing the kindness and generosity of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp toward the original cast. In looking back at the creation of "DS", its beginnings and how it was revived in the 90's, Ms. Scott never hides the human element that made the show so entertaining and riveting. The contributions of creator Dan Curtis and the team that added so much to the characters as well as rememberances by Lara Parker and Jim Pearson take us back in time to a television era that shaped the world we knew. Prose by the brilliant David Selby highlights the memories of an actor who moved seamlessly between evil and good, and caps a must read for anyone who ran home to watch the crashing waves and tragic Collins family in the 60's. Be prepared to read this book time and again-it's that good!

This book, written by one of the leading actresses (Kathryn Leigh Scott) from the original Dark Shadows series (1966-1971) and its two movies, includes some great photos and behind the scenes insights. It also contains some material about the more recent Tim Burton / Johnny Depp project, which was a nice update, although I'm not a Burton / Depp fan. The author also wrote another volume which I highly recommend titled "My Scrapbook Memories of Dark Shadows". It just never gets old! :-)

I honestly adore Kathryn Leigh Scott, and I had looked forward to this book so very much. I think this is perhaps Scott's finest Dark Shadows book to date. It isn't filled with the usual mistakes her fans (like me) are happy to overlook with her other work. I think she finally found her voice, and maybe Jim Pierson was the one who helped ensure accuracy, which is appreciated. I enjoyed learning about Scott's visit to England with other original DS cast members to make their cameos in Johnny Depp's Dark Shadows film. It's clear that she really adores her fellow DS cast members, especially the lovably cranky Jonathan Frid (RIP). If you like DS, you will want to add this one to your collection. Loved it.

Ms. Scott and her co-authors describe the heart-warming and delightful cameo film experience for several classic Dark Shadows actors during the 2010 production for the 2012 "Dark Shadows" film. Projects such as previous films, theatre and recent audio productions are mentioned chronologically within each section of the book. "Dark Shadows: Return to Collingwood" is an excellent resource for people who are not familiar with Dark Shadows or as an excellent starting point for new Dark Shadows fans by providing an overview of the previous movies, theatre production and audio versions over the years. Long time fans would enjoy reading about the personal details during the 2010 filming for the 2012 "Dark Shadows" film and remembering the chronological overview of the Dark Shadows franchise spanning nearly five decades.

Fun way to learn and relax. Great for horse lovers especially those with a vet or physiology interest.

Coloring book!!!!! NOT! This is an amazing complete depiction of every muscle in a horse's body. It would be fun to color, too. The price is incredible. If this book were considered a text book for a vet class or zoology class it would be a couple hundred dollars. There are no explanations, but the drawings are great! I made copies of individual drawings to draw on and take notes on for my personal use so that I did not mess up the book, but at $3.99, I could afford to by many copies :)

I bought this book to help teach my 11 year old daughter to know all aspects of equine anatomy. It does the job. There is more than most people will ever truly need, but you will have in your hands a good reference to each area of the equine.I like it, could be better if there were a diagram of bone structure that only showed the major bones and areas most referred to for horse owners. I would say each diagram has about 70% more detail than most people need.Yet, too much is better than too little.

Got as a gift with the movie flicka for an 11 year old who rides horses and wants to bea veterinarian. My daughters friend and her mom both really liked it. She likes it had a lot of facts and info she will need to learn if she wants to be a veterinarian working with horses. I already bought her a bryer horse book for her bday and she loved it. It was hard to find something unique yet pleasing that measured up to that one!

BOUGHT THIS ACTUALLY FOR MY OLDEST ADULT DAUGHTER - SHE LOVES TO DRAW & LOVES HORSES - SO IT'S A GREAT COMBIATION SHE WAS SURPRISED WHEN SHE GOT IT & LOVES ALWAYS A WINNER W/DOVER BOOKS

I loveee the book itself! It has so many useful things that my daughter is going to love to learn about! The package was just a sleeve so in the mail my book got distorted. I wouldn't buy again just for that reason!

Purchased as a birthday gift for a freshman in high school who wants to be a vet. She asked for books etc to help her in her path. She knew about 1/2 of the information because she has worked with horses for the last 5 years or so.

I bought this to help me in my animal anatomy class, and it was extremely helpful! I would 100% recommend this to anyone needing to learn horse anatomy, even if you don't like coloring!

I teach energy work for horses and this book is a required purchase to attend class. It identifies the "ins and outs" of the anatomy without being a college course. It's perfect!

Purchased this as a Bridal Shower gift, the shower was a retro 50's theme so this book fit right in - it was a gift but also doubled as a Shower decoration. Okay here is the kicker - the book content is GREAT!! Catchy retro design aside, this book is absolutely filled with fantastic ideas, hints, and smart ideas for time and money saving home ideas. Anyone caring for a home would appreciate the ideas in this book. As a bonus the illustrations are fun and those getting a kick out of retro themes will love, love, love the pictures throughout the book. There's a lot of nostalgia here along with solid, practical advice.

I checked this book out from the library. I collect household hints books and thought this looked like fun. I liked it so well, I bought my own copy. The illustrations are wonderful. The hints are pretty much what I already knew but are presented in words and pictures of my youth. If you need help with your chores, please do think about buying this and putting it on your resource library shelf. It has many helpful hints presented in a colorful setting.Thanks.

I can't tell u guys how much I love love this book! I Know there's Pinterest u fan look for whatever you want! Right? No it feels different when u are holding a old style vintage book in your hand and start reading and learning about different tricks, woman's we're more knowledgeable in the past! Awesome book.

This was a phenomenal book. I gave it to my sister in-law as a Christmas present. Let's just say she is not a house wife. She thought this book was extremely helpful and great for pointers on how to clean the house and take care of things in the kitchen. She really liked the how to make a sandwhich notes near the end.

Not quite what I expected. Many household hints I guess. But very little in the way of clear help to actually clean/take care of something. For instance, lots of hints about cleaning a kitchen, yet still don't know the best way to clean my wood floors. And only mildly amusing. I would not recommend.

In a day when we are more and more going green, this book is a Godsend! There are all sorts of great tips and hints for maintaining a clean home the way our grandparents did. There are plenty of examples of amusing ways things were done "back in the day". The nostalgic artwork is lovely too, only wish some of it were larger. I love this book! Another Susan Wagonner gem!

This exceeded my expectations. The graphics are wonderful (as are all in Susan Waggoner books), And the tips are very helpful. Reads like a ligt-hearted novel. Fun to read, delightful to look at. Am buying all of her books.

I wouldn't necessarily have chosen this book on my own, but my book group selected it and I'm glad I had a chance to read it. It's an interesting, if very painful, subject that we in the US never get a chance to learn much about. In essence it tells the story of Australian prisoners held by the Japanese during World War II, and their forced slave labor to build a railroad through the jungles of southeast Asia. Most of the story is told through the eyes of one character, a self-centered doctor who, as the highest ranking surviving Australian officer, finds himself responsible for the welfare of the prisoners.Though the book is a novel, the central character is based to some extent on at least one actual Australian officer who survived the POW camps. But while the character is interesting, the real story is the horrific brutality imposed on the prisoners by their Japanese and Korean guards. Without doing my own research, it's hard to know if the book exaggerates the brutality (beatings, torture, killings, starvation, living in mud without any sanitary accommodation, complete lack of medical care, forced slave labor in a filthy, diseased, oppressive jungle), but clearly circumstances of this type were imposed on prisoners by the Japanese during the war.Perhaps as challenging to the reader as the murderous treatment of prisoners is the author's description of the Japanese point of view. In this telling, Japanese culture, philosophy and ethics at this time were epitomized by social attitudes that justified such brutal treatment as the norm for dealing with defeated foreigners. Unlike the case with Nazi war criminals who knew they were flouting international standards of behavior and reveled in the genocide they committed, this book's author presents the Japanese as not believing in any way that what they were doing was wrong. By the standards of their society, their behavior was entirely ethical, and those who were tried for war crimes afterward did not seem to understand why it was that they were being charged, tried and punished. If this is a true depiction of Japanese culture in the 1940s, then, in effect, it makes a case for moral relativism, i.e., there is no objective or agreed upon morality between cultures. I find this very troubling as it means there can be no internationally accepted standards for behavior in conflicts between nations, thus no accountability for war crimes except insofar as the victor chooses to treat the vanquished.A book that can cause me to stop and think through this sort of problem is a book worth reading. For while I found the violence in the story to be more graphic and more horrible than what I have read in almost any other book, it nonetheless was a valuable device for raising some important questions, as well as giving the reader a chance to learn about a very difficult episode (one among many) during World War II.

WOW!!! What a book!* it’s moving yet sensitive;* it’s raw with a no-holds bar attitude;* it’s gruesome yet gripping;* it sends you on a emotional roller-coaster ride yet somehow you can’t bring yourself to stop reading it even if you wanted to;* it reminds me of The Memory Room;* the lack of speech marks somehow adds to the story - it’s like a reflection spanning many years;* it’s a story of contradictions - hopelessness yet they clung to routines with great fervour always hoping they’ll make it out alive even though specifically expressed;* it’s book that trying to describe it doesn’t do it justice - it needs to be experienced. This book leaves the reader with so many questions:1. How can humans treat fellow humans how the Japanese treated these POWs?2. How can the Japanese (not sure if this is the case today) value life with such contempt and live with themselves?3. Am I putting an Australian understanding of the value of life onto a culture that doesn’t share this belief?4. How would I behave in the same situation?5. Would I stand up to the Japanese or would I do what Dorrigo and others did and stand by and let the treatment that was meted out on the soldiers to continue? Would this make me as bad as the Japanese or do the normal rules of life not apply in a war situation? This book tears at the heartstrings. I cried (view spoiler) This one statement held the rawest of truth and expressed so much more. This book is an emotional roller-coaster ride which has a way of getting under your skin before you realise that it has done. I found I had to take a breather from the rawness and horror of the railway men’s plight - it was almost too painful to bear. It was at times ripping me apart. Some of the characters:Dorrigo and Amy - The Dorrigo and Amy scene I didn’t feel added to the story very much and I was glad when they didn’t get back together. This book was not about, dare I say, frilly endings but rather about the harshness of something that belies all logic and decent humanity. It show-cased how life is never the same after war for all those who were affected by it, but it also showed how easy it is to live in, and for, what could have been (i.e. Dorrigo essentially stopped living - or living a lie perhaps - because Amy wasn’t a part of his life anymore). Almost like Ella was second prize and yet she was exactly what he needed to continue living post the railway nightmare.Japanese soldiers and Nakamura - I found myself wanting to hate the Japanese soldiers & Nakamura for what they were doing to the Aussie POWs, instead I found I was unable to because I realised that they were as much victims of their superiors as the POWs were of them. They were all puppets on a string.Summing up:It showed how it is possible for humans to perform the most heinous attrocities yet somehow still manage to block out the severity of what they’re doing - probably because if they didn’t they would not be able to cope.

Ok, I'm ready to be dubbed a boob but I really found this novel unsatisfying. I know, all the glowing reviews. How could I not appreciate this novel, called by one reviewer the best novel he'd read since Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' (which I also thought little of.) ? I found the prose turgid and the 'romantic' aspects of the novel immature and repetitive. If you want to read a 'romantic' novel with literary merit I would suggest Mark Helprin's 'In Sunlight and in Shadow'. Also, the Japanese prison camp scenario has been done to death in my opinion. I have read and enjoyed many of the Booker prize winners and short-listed nominees over the last 20 years so I am no stranger to well-received literary novels. Sorry to be so negative but I honestly couldn't get past page 100 before I gave up on it, something I almost never do.
