I've read this series a few times over now to get a good idea of what I was reading. Sometimes, the first time around, one might think a book or series is all right. Then they read it again, and perhaps again, and they realize it's quite bad.This series is not just bad, but endlessly frustrating with dozens of plot holes. Not only that, the characters make claims about their own characteristics or about the alien culture that are never followed through on. For example, Baird claims that the Kindred culture is a matriarchy. What a joke lol. It's so far from a matriarchy that it makes me sick knowing that the author put this in her book believing it was true. Treating women like property and having laws allowing their male partners to punish them when they "misbehave" sounds more like what we're still trying to steer clear of to this day. She should've done her research and have been more aware of this inconsistency in her writing. I wouldn't have had an issue with the aggressive/possessive behavior of the Kindred if she hadn't put that claim in. If you want your writing to be a certain way, be sure to back up what you're claiming. If you say you live in a matriarchy, look up what that means and make it so.The dialogue between characters is at times painful to the point where I skipped dialogue just because I already knew what was going on and didn't want to go through the effort of experiencing it again. I'm HORRIBLY disappointed that we're given backgrounds of certain characters and we never really get to see those traits in their personalities (which are bland and all the same to begin with). Like Kat -- she's suppose to be a lawyer, but the only time she shows off her skills is during the first book when she's reading over the contract. After that, it's just forgotten. I really wanted to see her do something with that, but this is a common problem in this series.Another issue I have with this series is that everyone seems to have a convenient hangup (surprise, it's usually always the women) that has to be fixed. I really hate this artificial lengthening of the plots. What's wrong with just not wanting to be owned by some hostile alien dude, not because you have emotional baggage, but because you just want to live life the way you always have? And it started to become so irritating how most of the female characters somehow always had the worst exes and kept making comparisons. Just one annoying trope after another, really.The worlds are badly designed, the other alien creatures are cartoonish and confusing (for such an advanced species, why are they riding around on alien llamas? Why is that even a thing?).Oh, and I forgot to mention that in the first book, a side character said that on the Twin Kindred planet, they sleep standing up and eat lying down. They have regular beds and eat at tables. It's just little inconsistencies like this that are laughable and make me never want to read this series again, let alone finish it. I don't like the characters, I hate their relationship dynamics (there's a lot of sexual assault in this series, surprise surprise), and it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth in general.Give Abigail Barnette's The Boss series a try if you have doubts about the Kindred books. Neil and Sophie are great characters and after reading their story, I really felt like I didn't waste an ounce of my time.Unlike Kindred. I want that part of my life back.
Lauren, poor unsuspecting cupcake maker who was just enjoying a day off when she was kidnapped by the AllFather, (in Sought). She appeals to Xairn, only son of the AllFather and just as cold, but maybe not as cruel. Xairn has a need in his heart that his father has not quenched with his abuse and Lauren fills it. Will he have the courage to do what's right, or will he obey his father in an attempt to fulfill the prophecy?I just reread books 1 and 2 and I'd forgotten how awful Xairn was in them. It makes this book all the sweeter, knowing he does have feelings in there. I have to say that Xairn is one of my favorites, though not fantasy material for me. I love the way he and Lauren relate as they navigate a rocky relationship and Xairn learns to live away from the AllFather's overbearing presence.This book has, in my opinion, a little more intrigue than the previous ones. I liked seeing more the world Evangeline has built for her Kindred Warriors. At times I wished Lauren and Xairn would be more proactive and less dismissive of their feelings, but I know they needed to get there in their own time.
Like all the books before this one in the series, this novel focuses mainly on one relationship while introducing the next book’s couple and dabbling in the pairings that were previously established in the other tales. In Found, we are immersed in the difficult and seemingly insurmountable coupling of Lauren and Xarin. Unlike the previous three books, this tale begins with a whole new level of darkness. Yet, even in such a situation, the chemistry between the lovely Lauren and the lonely Xarin is palpable. Together the duo craft a dramatic path toward happily ever after, but danger lurks at every turn.As always I shall start by discussing the main female protagonist. Lauren is a determined, cupcake baker with a level of street-smarts that keep her from losing herself in the dark world of the Scourage. Now, while I didn’t find Lauren nearly as relatable as I did Kat, Sophia, & Olivia before her, I did enjoy her way of responding to the things that happened to her; it was very real. Xarin, the male protagonist, was in my opinion, a marvelous character. He was deep and dark, but sweet and well-intention in regards to Lauren. The additional aspect of BDSM to his desires was just another plus for me. Evangeline Anderson has a real talent for crafting males that truly touch the reader; they are realistic, but still have that element of fantasy to them.My favorite part of the novel was not Lauren or Xarin or even the plot, though all three of these things were positives. No, my favorite part was the inclusion of Little One. What can I say? I’m a true sucker for animals. All in all, I highly recommend this book, as I have the rest of this series, to anyone who enjoys science fiction romance novels. This one in particular I believe will appeal to fans of E.L. James’ “Fifty Shades of Grey.â€
This series is awesome. The 4th book is Lauren and Xairn's story. They escape from his evil father and he seeks a planet where they can get their DNA altered so she can return to Earth. It works for a while until they finally give in and have sex. Once again the evil father can track him. Incredible read.
